Android 16-based Nothing OS 4.0 update released for Nothing Phone (3)

Nothing-OS-4

The release of Nothing OS 4.0, which is built on Google’s Android 16 operating system, has now started rolling out for the Nothing Phone (3).

This software introduces a refreshed visual design and several functional improvements. Users can expect a more fluid performance, with the company highlighting enhancements to speed and general responsiveness. The interface for navigating between apps, accessing notifications, and using motion commands has been reworked to provide better feedback.

Aesthetically, the update presents a more streamlined appearance. Nothing has given its built-in applications a new set of icons with a simpler design. The icons at the top of the screen that display signal and battery status have also been updated. Furthermore, the update adds more customization choices for the lock screen, including new clock styles, and introduces a deeper “extra dark mode” to reduce eye strain in low light.

It can now work in tandem with certain Android 16 features to show the progress of delivery orders, transportation services, and kitchen timers directly through its pattern of lights.

For customers with other Nothing devices, the rollout will be staggered. The company plans to bring Nothing OS 4.0 to most of its older phone models in the next few weeks.

Products under the independent CMF brand are also expected to get the update before the end of 2025.
