The Philippines is set to receive a major financial boost for its technology sector. The European Union has granted the country €22.6 million, worth about Php1.4 billion, to speed up PH digital transformation.
This new funding, established through a partnership deal, will support national projects in several key areas. These include the expansion of 5G networks, artificial intelligence programs, and stronger cybersecurity defenses.
A significant part of the initiative will improve the country’s use of the EU’s Copernicus program. This system uses satellite imagery to monitor the environment. The goal is to give Philippine agencies real-time data to better manage disasters, farm outputs, and natural resources.
Government officials praised the collaboration. The EU’s ambassador said the grant underscores a shared goal of using technology for public benefit.
The wider package will also finance policy work for 5G rollout and upgrades to digital infrastructure. Protecting vital systems from cyber threats is another key priority of the agreement.
The financial contribution includes €20 million from the EU, with additional support of €2 million from Finland and €600,000 from France.
Several local agencies will manage the projects, including the Philippine Space Agency and the Department of Information and Communications Technology. They will work alongside European experts to implement the plans.
