Pinoy-made e-tranvia now offers free rides around Intramuros

A new kind of ride is now rolling through the historic streets of Intramuros in Manila. It looks like a tram from the old days, but it runs on pure electricity and was built entirely by Filipinos. The vehicle called the e-tranvia was shown to the public on March 19. It can carry 18 passengers and moves at low speeds, making it perfect for sightseeing inside the Walled City. Several groups worked together to make this happen. The Department of Science and Technology teamed up with its regional office in Metro Manila and its research institute in Bicutan. They also got help from the University of the Philippines Diliman and Cagayan State University. The body of the vehicle uses a special material made from abaca fiber. This was developed by DOST researchers. The electrical parts including the batteries and motor came from the UP Diliman team. Cagayan State University handled the design and put together the frame and suspension. MetroFuel Tracker shows a map of gas stations wit...
