Worldwide PC shipments dropped in Q3 2026, still due to RAM shortage

The latest report from the International Data Corporation (IDC) reveals that global PC shipments dropped in Q3 2026, with the industry still dealing with the same problem: a RAM shortage. According to IDC, the industry shipped just 62.7 million PCs in Q3, a 9.1 percent decrease from the previous quarter and a significant 20.1 percent year-over-year (YoY) decline compared to Q3 2025. The IDC report officially cited “supply issues” and “elevated prices” as the main reasons for the decline. But we all know what that means: the ongoing memory shortage continues to hit the PC industry hard. “Channels are now worried about carrying too much inventory into a market where high prices are suppressing demand,” said IDC’s Jitesh Ubrani. “That could translate into promotions and some short-term relief for consumers, but we don’t expect pricing anywhere near what it was a year ago. Prices will remain elevated. With macro c...

Humanoid robots could drive the next memory shortage — Micron

Micron Technology says humanoid robots will become a major source of memory demand, which means prices are unlikely to fall even if the AI boom cools down. The Idaho-based chipmaker, one of the world’s three largest memory makers alongside Samsung and SK hynix, reported its fiscal fourth-quarter results on September 29, 2026. Revenue reached $54.2 billion, up 379 percent from a year earlier. Full-year fiscal 2026 revenue hit $133.2 billion, with net income of $85 billion. Micron says each humanoid robot will need about 200 gigabytes of DRAM and several terabytes of NAND flash storage. CEO Sanjay Mehrotra said physical AI, starting with self-driving cars and later humanoid robots, could become a major driver of memory demand before this decade ends. Alibaba launches RynnBrain, an open-source AI model for robotics Japan Airlines tests humanoid robots as baggage handlers Morgan Stanley estimates humanoid robot shipments in 2030 will range from 250,000 to 1.2...

OpenAI adds hidden watermarks to code, text generated on its platform

OpenAI will start adding hidden watermarks to text and code made in the European Union. This move is meant to follow the EU’s new AI transparency rules. The new OpenAI tool is called textGrain . It puts a secret statistical signal into the model’s word choices. A detector can then check for that signal. OpenAI says it tested better than other methods, such as Google’s SynthID for text. But the company warns it may not always work in real life. Tests show some problems. Short text is hard to detect. Passages of about 200 tokens were caught around 80 percent of the time. However, longer passages of 400 tokens were caught about 95 percent of the time. Math content was much harder to detect. Editing also lowers the rate. Swapping 10 percent of words with synonyms cut detection from about 92 percent to 66 percent. Swapping 25 percent brought it down to 17 percent. The textGrain OpenAI detector will not be open to everyone at first. Only approved researchers an...

NBA 2K27 Review

Every annual sports release faces the same opening question: what did the developers actually change? On the surface, everything often look similar to last year’s release, with improvements and changes hidden underneath. NBA 2K27 officially came out this September on PS5, Xbox, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. It’s the first 2K to drop last generation consoles completely, which means plenty of gamers who haven’t upgraded yet are left out. This year, Victor Wembanyama is on the cover of the standard edition, Caitlin Clark fronts the Deluxe, and the Ultra Edition honors Derrick Rose’s iconic career. On the court, this is the most complete basketball simulation Visual Concepts and 2K has ever produced. Everything built around it is still classic 2K, which means it wants your time and your money whenever it can get them. And by now, I think nobody is really surprised about that. So, let’s dig deeper and check out what’s new and what I think abo...
