DICT eyes ban on Telegram in the Philippines

Telegram, a popular instant messaging app, could soon be banned in the Philippines. The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is studying the possibility of banning Telegram in the Philippines. DICT cited the platform being used to distribute pornography and facilitate gambling operations as a reason. In an interview, DICT Secretary Henry Aguda said that they are struggling to coordinate with Telegram developers to enforce local regulations on the platform. Aguda stressed that certain issues like online sexual exploitation and child abuse are “non-negotiable”, and if such content continues to be spread on any platform, the government will not think twice in blocking them in the country. Infinix NOTE Edge: Slim, Powerful Smartphone Made for Gen Zs

The Infinix NOTE series became prominent for its gaming prowess. But with the Infinix NOTE Edge, they plan on appealing to a wider audience, especially Gen Zs who want a no-compromise phone with a sleek design and powerful hardware.

For a device priced under Php15,000, we’re already impressed by the power and sleekness this device offers. To understand why we like this new device, let’s take a closer look at what makes the new Infinix NOTE Edge stand out.

Luxury on a budget

Infinix has a reputation for thinking outside the box in terms of design. The Infinix NOTE Edge, as the name suggests, has smooth curves on each side of the 3D-curved 1.5K screen and the rear panel.

It made the device feel very sleek in the hands and achieved an incredible thinness of just 7.2mm. Feats like these are not uncommon, but what makes it special is the fact that Infinix achieved this on a device that doesn’t break the bank.

To make sure it can keep up in style, the NOTE Edge comes in three elegant colors. The one we have is the Silk Green. There’s also the Stellar Blue, Lunar Titanium, and Shadow Black.

Which one’s your favorite? Personally, we like the fancy texture of the Silk Green that mimics that of a luxury handbag.

Small body, big battery

Own a thin and light smartphone or go prioritize long battery life? Well, you don’t have to choose with the Infinix NOTE Edge.

Despite its ultra-thin body, it still has a big 6,500mAh battery. No need to compromise here.

This battery capacity can last you for up to 20 hours of non-stop video playback. Plus, since the device has been futureproofed, it can retain at least 80% of its battery health even after 2,000 full charge cycles or over 6 years of typical daily use.

Infinix achieved this thanks to the industry-first self-healing technology that automatically repairs micro-damage when the battery is fully depleted through dynamic recrystallization, thus significantly lowering long-term degradation.

The massive 6,500mAh battery is paired with a 45W charger that can fully charge the device in as fast as an hour. What’s more impressive is the Adaptive Bypass Charging technology, which sends the power directly to the motherboard when gaming or using the GPS to eliminate heat.

Immersive display and audio experience

Most people are always about performance and the cameras, so they often overlook the display. Well, that wouldn’t be the case with the Infinix NOTE Edge.

Before we detail its specs, just look and appreciate the screen. That large size and curvy sides are just gorgeous.

The screen you’re looking at is a 6.78-inch 1.5K AMOLED panel with 120Hz refresh rate, 10-bit color, and whopping 4,500-nit peak brightness.

Infinix paired it with JBL-tuned stereo speakers that have a Five-Magnet Acoustic System. Together, they provide an immersive entertainment experience, whether you’re watching movies, playing games, or just scrolling through TikTok, Instagram/Facebook Reels, or YouTube Shorts.

Satisfying user experience

It may have gained tons of new features, but Infinix still didn’t skimp on the processor. In fact, it has a MediaTek Dimensity 7100 processor, making the Infinix NOTE Edge the very first smartphone in the world to use it.

Combined with the 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, it achieved an AnTuTu Score of 810,000.

For smoother performance, Infinix developed a UPS 3.0 AI Super Signal Technology that provides a 50% stronger signal in low–reception areas like elevators, music festivals, or if you’re hiking in nature.

To give an even better day-to-day experience, Infinix has included a One-Tap Button, which you can customize to launch the FOLAX AI, camera, flashlight, and more.

The Active Halo Light on the back not only looks cool, but also has tons of uses. It lights up when you receive notifications, incoming calls, charging condition, music, and more.

Futureproof with extensive software support

The Infinix NOTE Edge ships with an all-new Android 16-based XOS 16. What’s more impressive is its software support, which is the longest for the whole NOTE series.

Infinix promised that the NOTE Edge will receive 3 years of OS upgrades and 5 years of security patches. That’s very commendable and especially impressive considering the device’s price tag.

Cameras

Of course, a great Gen Z phone will not be complete without capable cameras. The Infinix NOTE Edge has a 50-megapixel main camera and is the first to feature Infinix’s Live Photo Mode.

With Live Photo, the camera takes a 1.5s video before and after you press the shutter, so you won’t miss a moment. You can then pick which frame to keep or convert the whole video into a GIF.

These are the reasons why the Infinix NOTE Edge has the edge over the competitors, especially if you’re a Gen Z in the market for a thin, light, and powerful smartphone that won’t break the bank.

The Infinix NOTE Edge is available at a discounted price exclusively on TikTok Shop for Php12,999. If that’s not enough, you also get a free XE26 earbuds.

You can also get it at Shopee, Lazada, and the Infinix website for Php13,999 and a free Infinix Insulated Tumbler.

But if you get it at offline stores, you get a chance to win any of the many prizes from Infinix’s raffle promo. They are giving away 3x trip to Chongqing for two, 9x Infinix GT Book laptops, and 15x Seventeen NEW Tour Concert Tickets.

What does the “IP” rating on your smartphone mean?

If you look at your new phone’s specifications, you will notice something like “IP69 Water and Dust Protection.” This is a common selling point that phone manufacturers and brands show on their specifications. At first glance, it may appear too technical, but it’s actually straightforward. What does the IP code mean? The “IP” in the IP code stands for Ingress Protection, an internationally recognized standard defined by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) that indicates the level of dust and water protection of a gadget, such as a mobile phone or other electronic device. As you notice, the letters IP are usually followed by a mix of numbers and/or letters, like ‘IP69’ or ‘IPX7,’ indicating their water and dust protection rating.  We already mentioned what IP stands for. Now, let’s look at the next two digits. What does the first digit mean? The first digit after IP indicates solid particle protection, including dust, wires, or body parts. It will range from ...
