We have a complicated relationship with battery. For years, we’ve been locked in a silent compromise. We demand smartphones that are thinner, lighter, and more elegant, yet we carry the guilt of battery anxiety.
Our solution? The portable power bank. But let’s be honest: for all their utility, traditional power banks are a burden. They are the bulky bricks we throw into a bag, tethered to our phones by a cable, ruining the sleek, unibody aesthetic we pay a premium for.

We’ve spent the last week living with a device that feels less like an accessory and more like a liberation from that compromise: the new Xiaomi UltraThin Magnetic Power Bank 5000. At first glance, the specs seem too good to be true. A 6mm thin profile? 98 grams light? 15W wireless charging? It sounds like marketing hype.
But after putting it through the real-life tests, from cramped coffee shop tables to day-to-day use, I’d like to share with you the things that you should know about it.

How Xiaomi made it so thin
The slim design comes down to battery technology. Xiaomi has moved away from standard lithium polymer cells and instead used a silicon carbon battery with 16% silicon content. This allows the company to pack 5,000mAh of capacity into a space that was previously too small for a battery of this size.
There’s a lot of similar looking power banks in Lazada and Shopee, but they are nowhere near as thin as this one. Most of them are bulky and uncomfortable to attach to a smartphone when in use.

Xiaomi has achieved this sorcery through a rigorous focus on materials and density. Basically, this is the same technology used in most midrange to flagship smartphones. Compared to the bulkier batteries of the past, this allowed them to pack a meaningful 5000mAh capacity into a chassis that almost defies physics.
Charging speeds and compatibility
The Xiaomi UltraThin Magnetic Power Bank 5000 supports the Qi2 wireless charging standard. For users with Xiaomi’s latest Xiaomi 17 series phones, it delivers the full 15W magnetic charging speed. iPhone users from the 12 series through the 17 will only get 7.5W charging, though. While that won’t recharge a phone from empty quickly, it is enough for top ups during the day and without outlet access.

Xiaomi also wisely included two versatile charging modes. It features a USB-C port on the side. This serves a dual purpose: it’s how you recharge the bank itself, but it also allows for passthrough charging. You can plug the bank into a wall charger via USB-C, and it will wirelessly charge your phone simultaneously. More importantly, it turns the UltraThin into a traditional wired power bank for devices without wireless charging for your older phone, your AirPods, or your friend’s dev ice. Plug them in, and the 5000mAh capacity provides a faster and more reliable charging solution.

Design and heat management
The power bank comes in three colours: Glacier Silver, Graphite Black, and Radiant Orange. It uses an aluminium alloy shell rather than the plastic found on many budget power banks.
Making a wireless charger this thin creates heat challenges. That’s why Xiaomi has fitted a 4,369 square millimeter graphite sheet inside to spread heat across the surface. Dual temperature sensors monitor heat in real time to prevent the device from getting too hot during fast charging. The surface that touches the phone uses a fiberglass composite with a heat-resistant coating to keep devices cool.

The compatibility list is wide, basically almost any device that supports Qi and wireless charging. It supports iPhones from the 12 through 17, Samsung’s entire Galaxy S25 series, and Google’s Pixel 9 and 10 lines. There is one catch though. Xiaomi’s own latest flagships, the 15 and 17 series, do not have built in magnets. Users with those phones will need a magnetic case or a metal ring to attach the power bank.

For phones with built in magnets, the 71.5mm width of the power bank matches the width of most recent iPhones and Xiaomi flagships closely, so it sits flush without protruding over the sides or camera module.
Pricing and availability
You can find the Xiaomi UltraThin Magnetic Power Bank 5000 on Shopee, Lazada, and TikTok Shop. The official pricing in the Philippines is set at Php3,699. At this price point, it undercuts many bulkier competitors and offers incredible value for the level of design and portability it offers.
