Apple will allow Gemini and Claude to replace ChatGPT in Siri — report

Apple is planning to give iPhone users the freedom to pick which AI chatbot works with Siri. The change is expected to arrive with the iOS 27 update later this year. According to a report from Bloomberg , Apple will introduce a new system called “Extensions.” This feature will let users connect third-party chatbots downloaded from the App Store directly to Siri. That means instead of being stuck with just one option, people could choose to link services like Google’s Gemini or Anthropic’s Claude to handle their voice assistant requests. The way it works is expected to be similar to how Siri already works with OpenAI’s ChatGPT today. When a user asks a question that the chatbot is better suited to answer, Siri will be able to fetch a reply from whichever service the person has enabled. Bloomberg reports that the Extensions system will work across iPhone, iPad, and Mac. It will also tie into a standalone app that Apple is reportedly developing for its more advanced version of Sir...

Bloomberg reports that the Extensions system will work across iPhone, iPad, and Mac. It will also tie into a standalone app that Apple is reportedly developing for its more advanced version of Siri. That upgraded assistant is designed to take actions on your behalf across different apps.

The news comes after Apple faced several delays with its Siri overhaul. In January, the company revealed it was working with Google to help power the revamped assistant. The Information reported last week that the deal with Google also includes Apple using Gemini to train some of its smaller AI models.

Apple is expected to show off the new operating systems at its Worldwide Developers Conference, which kicks off on June 8th.
