Hard drives used for archives are dying with no recovery option

Iron Mountain, a company that specializes in archiving the vaults of the media industry, said that 20 percent of the hard drives used to achieve music recordings from the 90s are dead and unreadable. During the said era, hard drives replaced spooled magnetic tapes in digital audio workstations as they are smaller, less prone to deterioration, and safer to fires. Meanwhile, the PC Game Pass subscription is also getting a price hike of USD11.99 starting September from the current price of USD9.99. This is terrible news even for subscribers in the Philippines as the current Php119/mo local price will increase to Php175/mo once the changes take effect.

Microsoft will also launch a new Xbox Game Pass Standard subscription tier. It will cost USD14.99 (~Php875) per month for the new users and won’t come with day-one titles. Existing users can still use their Xbox Game Pass for Console subscriptions.

The new Standard tier gains online console multiplayer, which the Xbox Game Pass for Console didn’t have.

Current subscribers of the Xbox Game Pass for Console can stack for up to 13 months from September 18, but it will not affect existing stacks.

Xiaomi 14 Ultra: SD 8 Gen 3, 120Hz AMOLED, 1-inch sensor, Titanium Edition

Xiaomi has introduced in China its best smartphone to date, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, just a few days before its global debut at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona this February 25. The Xiaomi 14 Ultra looks similar to its predecessor in terms of the layout. But this time, it’s more refined, and Xiaomi is joining in on the Titanium hype as it will come with a Titanium Special Edition model, which uses a grade 5 titanium like the new iPhone 15 Pro series. Oddly, it weighs 229.6g, which is heavier than the black and white (22.4.4g) and Dragon Crystal (229.5g) colors. The Titanium will also exclusively get two-way satellite communication. Another similar but refined feature is the cameras. It still has four 50-megapixel shooters, however, the main one gets an upgraded 1-inch Sony LYT-900 sensor. It also has a wider f/1.63 aperture, which can be dropped to f/4.0. The other three cameras use the same 1/2.5-inch Sony IMX858 sensor. That’s for the ultra-wide lens with a 12mm eq
