Millions of printers around the globe vulnerable to hacking due to unfixable security flaw

Millions of printers from Brother and other manufacturers are exposed to serious security flaws, some of which can’t be patched, according to new research from cybersecurity firm Rapid7. The vulnerabilities affect hundreds of printer models worldwide, with Brother devices being the most impacted. Rapid7 discovered eight security flaws across 689 Brother printers, scanners, and label printers. The issue also extends to 46 Fujifilm, 6 Konica Minolta, 5 Ricoh, and 2 Toshiba models that use Brother components. The severity of these flaws ranges from moderate (CVSS score 5.3) to critical (CVSS score 9.8), with the most dangerous one being  CVE-2024-51978 . This flaw allows hackers to guess a printer’s default admin password because Brother uses a weak algorithm that generates passwords based on the device’s serial number and a fixed table. OnePlus is finally taking tablets seriously with their latest release, the OnePlus Pad 3.

The OnePlus Pad 3 has some serious upgrades over its predecessor. This one now has a massive, laptop-like 13.2-inch IPS display with a 3392 x 2400 pixel resolution, 144Hz refresh rate, 12-bit colors, and support for Dolby Vision. Audio has been bumped up to an 8-speaker configuration.

To go with the bigger display, the Pad 3 gets a beefier 12,140mAh battery with support for 80W fast charging.

It sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite processor with improved cooling via the large 34,857mm2 heat dissipation area, 14% better than its predecessor. You can get it with up to 16GB LPDDR5T RAM.

OnePlus AI, powered by Google Gemini, is here for features like AI translation, document summary, text writer, Circle to Search, and more. It also has seamless connectivity between a OnePlus phone for easy file transfers, notification, and clipboard sync.

You can also pair it with a Mac for drag-and-drop file transfers, native Mac gestures, and more.

It also supports OnePlus Stylo 2 stylus with ultra-low latency mode, 16,000 levels of pressure, haptic feedback, and even has a laser pointer function. The OnePlus Keyboard comes with a trackpad and NFC for one-touch transfers.

A 13-megapixel main camera is on the back and an 8-megapixel selfie camera on the front.
