After nearly five years, Apple has finally unveiled a new version of its popular item tracker. The second-generation AirTag brings key improvements in tracking range and audio, aiming to make finding lost items even easier.
The small, circular accessory, first launched in 2021, is designed to be attached to things like keys, backpacks, or luggage. Users can then see an item’s location on a map within Apple’s Find My app across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and iCloud.
The most significant upgrades are under the hood. Apple says the new AirTag 2 is equipped with a next-generation Ultra Wideband chip. This allows the Precision Finding feature, which gives precise on-screen directions to an item, to work from up to 50% farther away compared to the old model. A new Bluetooth chip also improves overall wireless range.

If you’re close but can’t see your item, a louder speaker might help. Thanks to an updated internal design, the new AirTag’s speaker is 50% louder than before, making it easier to hear the chirping sound when you’re searching.
Visually, not much has changed. The external design is identical, though it is very slightly heavier. It keeps the same IP67 water and dust resistance rating and continues to use a standard, user-replaceable CR2032 coin cell battery, which Apple says lasts “more than a year.”

The Apple AirTag 2 requires an iPhone running at least iOS 26.2.1. For Apple Watch users, the Precision Finding feature will now work on the screen of an Apple Watch Series 9, Apple Watch Ultra 2, or later models, but only when paired with the new second-generation AirTag. This feature does not work with the original AirTag on the Watch.

The new AirTag 2 is available to order starting today on Apple.com and in the Apple Store app and will arrive in physical Apple Stores later this week. Pricing remains unchanged: a single AirTag costs Php1,990 and a pack of four is Php6,790. Free personal engraving is still offered, and all existing AirTag accessories, like key rings, are compatible with the new model.
