Globe Telecom and Starlink reached a partnership that brings the latter’s direct-to-cell (DTC) satellite service to the Philippines.
With the Starlink Direct-to-Cell service, Globe Telecom users in far-flung, remote areas can have LTE connectivity. A milestone achievement in an island country heavily divided by water.
What’s more, this service is a first of its kind in Southeast Asia, the second in all of Asia, and 8th in the world.
The service will be compatible with all Globe users who register for the dedicated promo and who are in roaming mode. Once you’re registered for the service, your device will automatically and directly connect to any available Starlink satellite above you.
It is said that the service is expected to be available in the first quarter of 2026.
The Philippine government shows its heavy support for this development. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and representatives from the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) were at the launch event.
They highlighted how it will allow 100% of the country finally be connected online without the help of fiber optic cables.
Prices for the Direct-to-Cell service will be announced soon, but considering its target market, Globe promised it will be affordable.
