Smart lighting leader Philips Hue revealed a new feature called SpatialAware, designed to end the problem of mismatched or chaotic smart light colors in a room.
The software, which will launch this 2026, aims to create perfectly harmonized lighting scenes by understanding the physical layout of a space. It works exclusively with the professional-grade Hue Bridge Pro.
Users scan their room with a smartphone camera, using augmented reality to map the exact location of each light fixture. A smart algorithm then uses this spatial data to coordinate every bulb and fixture. For example, in a “sunset” scene, lights on one side of the room will emit warm yellow tones, while ceiling lights on the opposite side will show darker, cooler shades to create a natural, immersive effect. The system will also automatically incorporate any new lights added to the room after the initial setup.
The company stated this technology ensures lights are “perfectly coordinated” instead of being a “colorful jumble,” and can even manage smooth color gradients by considering which way a light strip is facing.

Alongside SpatialAware, Philips Hue announced several other updates coming in the first quarter of 2026.
The setup process will now allow users to combine multiple older Hue Bridges into one new Bridge Pro. Furthermore, Hue’s security products, including the Secure Camera, video doorbell, and contact sensors, will gain compatibility with Apple Home. This integration will enable live video viewing in picture-in-picture mode on Apple TV and real-time alerts in the Apple Home app.
The built-in Hue AI assistant is also receiving an upgrade. Users can now create lighting automations using plain language commands, such as, “wake me up at 6:45 AM every day except on Wednesdays.” Support for Dutch, German, and Spanish has been added to the assistant. Finally, the Hue app will begin displaying automations directly within the virtual rooms and zones they control, simplifying navigation for users.
