Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition unveiled

Xiaomi is taking camera phones to a whole new level by announcing a special Leica Edition of its latest flagship device, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra. The Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition has the same set of specs and features as the standard model . What makes it special is the mechanical zoom ring around the large camera island, mimicking the ones found on actual professional cameras. This dedicated ring lets you adjust the focal length, white balance, and exposure. It also has ridges on the frame to improve grip and the words “Leica Camera Germany” etched. You also get a dual-tone design that looks like many of the Leica M-series cameras. Of course, there’s that distinct Leica logo in an attractive, bright red backdrop. Xiaomi has prepared for the new year by releasing its latest top-dog phone, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra.

The new Xiaomi 17 Ultra is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, paired with up to 16GB of fast LPDDR5X RAM, and up to 1TB UFS 4.1 storage.

Keeping the lights on is an appropriately large 6,800mAh battery, paired with 90W wired, 50W wireless, and a speedy 22.5W wired reverse charging.

Going Ultra all the way, the device has a gigantic 6.9-inch M10 LTPO AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, 3,500-nit peak brightness, and Xiaomi Dragon Crystal Glass 3.0 protection.

Leica continue to lend a helping hand in the photography department. There’s the ultra-sharp 200-megapixel 1/1.4-inch HPE Samsung sensor with a periscope zoom.

There’s a large 50-megapixel Light Fusion 1050L 1-inch sensor with LOFIC. We also have a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens with autofocus and another 50-megapixel sensor on the front for selfies.

There’s also a Leica Edition of the phone, which we’ll be talking on a separate article. In the meantime, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra has a starting price of CNY6,999 (~Php58,900) in China for the 12GB/512GB, while the top-of-the-line 16GB/1TB model retails for CNY8,499 (~Php71,500).
