Deep strategy games losing appeal among gamers — report

Gamers are less attracted to video games that require deep thought and careful planning than they used to be. The declining appeal of deep strategy games is the focus in the latest report by Quantic Foundry . The game analytics consulting firm’s five-minute survey, called Gamer Motivation Profile, has gathered nine years’ worth of results from over 1.70 million gamer respondents worldwide to measure 12 motivations, or the different traits in a video game that appeal to gamers. Besides strategy, these motivations include challenge, community, competition, completion, destruction, discovery, design, excitement, fantasy, power, and story. Elon Musk and other tech leaders call for AI development pause over fear of putting society at risk

Elon-Musk-Artificial-Intelligence

Citing concerns over the probable repercussion of the advancement of artificial intelligence, Elon Musk, along with experts and tech industry execs, are calling for a six-month hiatus to the creation of a more robust Artificial Intelligence (AI) than OpenAI’s recently newly GPT-4.

Backed by Microsoft, OpenAI revealed the 4th rendition of the Generative Pre-trained Transformer (GPT) AI program earlier in the month, whose capability to mimic human-like creativity had impressed many users.

A letter issued by the Future of Life Institute cites how “powerful AI systems” must only be developed once the effects are sure to be positive and the risk attributed to them be made manageable.

Per the European Union’s transparency register, the aforementioned non-profit organization is primarily under the funding of the Musk Foundation in addition to the Silicon Valley Community Foundation and Founders Pledge.

Earlier in the month, a co-founder of OpenAI, Elon Musk, openly admitted how artificial intelligence “stresses” him out.

Musk showed frustration over the fact that regulators were critical of any attempt to oversee the autopilot system and thus called for a regulatory body to guarantee that the development of AI is in line with the public interest.

Despite garnering support through more than 1,000 signatures, including Musk, other leaders in tech, such as OpenAI’s Chief Executive Sam Altman, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, were not on the list who made the signatures.

Xiaomi has introduced in China its best smartphone to date, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, just a few days before its global debut at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona this February 25. The Xiaomi 14 Ultra looks similar to its predecessor in terms of the layout. But this time, it’s more refined, and Xiaomi is joining in on the Titanium hype as it will come with a Titanium Special Edition model, which uses a grade 5 titanium like the new iPhone 15 Pro series. Oddly, it weighs 229.6g, which is heavier than the black and white (22.4.4g) and Dragon Crystal (229.5g) colors. The Titanium will also exclusively get two-way satellite communication. Another similar but refined feature is the cameras. It still has four 50-megapixel shooters, however, the main one gets an upgraded 1-inch Sony LYT-900 sensor. It also has a wider f/1.63 aperture, which can be dropped to f/4.0. The other three cameras use the same 1/2.5-inch Sony IMX858 sensor. That’s for the ultra-wide lens with a 12mm eq
