Design and Build Quality
I daily drive an iPhone 15 Pro Max, which is undeniably one of the biggest, chunkiest flagships today. That’s why I immediately fell in love with the OPPO Find X8. It is way more comfortable to hold thanks to its smaller footprint while retaining the excellent build quality one would normally expect on a high-end device.
Thanks to its 6.59-inch display, the Find X8 is also thinner and lighter than its predecessor. It’s now 7.9mm thin (from 9mm) and only weighs 193g. I can’t stretch enough how amazingly compact and light this device is. If you’re tired of all the chunky flagships in the market, you should definitely consider checking this out.
Despite its lighter build, it still has an aluminum alloy frame like other flagships. The material is stunning, doesn’t attract fingerprints, and feels very smooth to the skin. The heavy curves on the four corners improve ergonomics, while the flat frame ensures a secure grip when holding the device.
The design on the back looks much cleaner than its predecessor. The colorway we have is the Star Gray option, which looks very elegant on the frosted glass panel that stays clean from fingerprint marks and smudges. Oh, and if you haven’t noticed yet, both the rear panel and the frame makes it look and feel like an iPhone. Some of my friends even thought that it’s an iPhone 16. The resemblance is uncanny.
The OPPO Find X8 also has an imposing camera island with a substantial camera bump. I did like the unique character it gave the device, especially with that Hasselblad logo in the middle of the lenses. It’s also available in Space Black for those who prefer a stealthier look.
When it comes to durability, the OPPO Find X8 has IP68 and IP69 dust and water resistance ratings, and has received a Swiss SGS certification for surviving drop tests.
In our light bend tests, the frame stayed intact and firm. I did hear some squeaks inside, possibly coming from the adhesive, but shouldn’t be a cause for concern. Overall, the OPPO Find X8 is a good-looking, well-built, comfortable-to-hold smartphone, making it a practical daily driver for people who don’t like gigantic handsets.
Taking a tour, we have the compact 6.59-inch display on the front. For comparison, most flagship phones — like the Find X8 Pro — measure around 6.7 inches diagonally. While the difference doesn’t seem much, it still makes a huge different in everyday usage.
The main highlight here is the thin bezels, which measure at just 1.45mm. The X8’s is so thin putting it side-by-side with an older smartphone with a normal bezel make it look archaic.
The IR blaster is placed on top, along with the speaker holes, and secondary microphone.
At the bottom, we have another set of speakers and microphones, the USB-C port, and the SIM tray that can house two nano SIM cards. Unfortunately, there’s no microSD card expansion option.
OnePlus’ signature Alert Slider sits alone on the left. The build quality on this is very impressive. It’s firm and clicky. Plus, the unique texture adds grip, so you can slide it without your fingers slipping.
The lock/power button and volume controls can be found on the other side. The buttons are wider and flatter than usual so it’s more convenient to press.
On the back, we have the said camera island with the triple cameras in a cross layout. The one on top is the telephoto lens, the left side has the ultra-wide, while the right houses the primary shooter. The one on the bottom houses the autofocus and color sensors.
The LED flash was distanced all the way to the top left of the rear panel. I also noticed that the OPPO logo was etched, which you can feel when you run your fingers through it. A nice and subtle touch that adds to its premium feel.
Display and Audio
As mentioned earlier, the OPPO Find X8 has a small but mighty display. It’s a 6.59-inch AMOLED screen with a 2760 x 1256 resolution, ProXDR support, a whopping 4500 nits of peak brightness under HDR, 1600 nits at high brightness mode, 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, HDR Vivid, and Dolby Vision support.
It also has an adaptive tone feature that can be enabled in the settings. It changes the screen’s color temperature to match your ambient lighting condition.
You can also adjust the screen resolution to extend battery life, set app-specific refresh rate, and more.
The display quality was great, no doubt about that. At 1,600 nits, it can compete with the sun on a sunny afternoon. While it’s best to set it to the highest resolution for better visual clarity, I had no issues with the lower resolution a.k.a Standard (2374 x 1080 instead of 2760 x 1256) as well. The difference in details is barely noticeable unless you’re pixel-peeping.
Colors are vibrant with deep blacks. Dolby Vision and HD streaming work on platforms like Netflix and Disney+, so you can appreciate video content better.
The stereo speakers are also good, but not the best I’ve heard. The bass is thumping, the treble is nice, and the volume is more than enough for private listening. I just wish the clarity was a bit better, as the mids are highs are more pronounced than my liking when at max volume.
Hardware and Performance
The OPPO Find X8 is one of the first to use MediaTek’s latest flagship chip. The Dimensity 9400 is made of TSMC’s 3nm process with clock speeds of up to 3.6GHz. It offers 35% faster single-core and 28% better multi-core performance than its predecessor, which was also found on the Find X7.
It then has an Immortalis-G925 GPU clocked at 1612MHz, which is 41% faster, has 40% better ray-tracing performance, and 44% more power efficient. While there’s an option for 16GB RAM globally, the units coming to the Philippines only have 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB UFS 4.0 of non-expandable storage.
I don’t really mind the 12GB RAM, as it’s more than fine for most use cases. However, I honestly don’t think the ‘tiny’ 256GB storage is a good idea given that other midrange smartphones now come with 512GB. And considering there’s no microSD support, that’s a very significant limiting factor. With its 50-megapixel cameras and 4K video, 256GB will probably be filled up quickly.
OPPO Find X8 Benchmark Scores
Its performance in day-to-day tasks has been great. It’s quick and snappy. I managed to fluidly move between apps like Facebook, Gmail and Google Docs, take pictures, play music in the background, and more without a problem.
However, we’re saw poor stability scores in our 3DMark test. In fact, the device overheated in the middle of the 20-minute test, hence the drop in frame rates. Thankfully, I didn’t experience such problems when I actually played with it.
Since this is the best chipset from MediaTek, I tried running games on their highest available settings to see how well it holds up.
I started with Genshin Impact. This demanding game managed to run smoothly under the Highest settings with no heating issues. This is the most demanding game in our gaming tests, so the next titles unsurprisingly ran even better.
Winning chicken dinner in PUBG Mobile was no problem under Ultra HDR/ Ultra settings. Call of Duty Mobile also ran smoothly under Max, as well as Farlight84 under Extreme/High. Both Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and Asphalt Legends Unite, to no one’s surprise, ran seamlessly with their best graphics settings.
So, can the OPPO Find X8 game? Well, it definitely can. All the games we tested ran on great with no heating issues ruining the experience even for an extended period of play time.

Software and User Interface
The OPPO Find X8 runs on the latest Android 15-based ColorOS 15 user interface. It builds on the already great ColorOS 14, with additional AI features, themes, OPPO’s luminous rendering engine, and Aqua Dynamics. In addition to the new features, OPPO also promises up to 6 years of software support — one of the longest in the industry.
However, it may not be everyone’s cup of tea, especially for those who prefer stock Android. Those who prefer the simplicity of the UI and need plenty of customization options would like it, though.
Everything feels extra smooth on this one. The animations feel fluid, transitions are seamless and more responsive, and the app icons look more polished.
Flux Themes is a new inclusion that lets you create iPhone-like wallpapers that can be heavily personalize. There are different effects and layout combinations, depending on how you want it to look.
Users can also customize the Always-On Display (AOD) wallpapers, use a selfie to generate a bitmoji or outline, and more.
Let’s head to the plethora of AI features. Most of the text-related AI features can be accessed on the Smart Sidebar, which you can access from the corner of the screen.
One of the features you can use is called AI Summary which will provide you with a bullet-point summary of any article you’re reading.
But if you really hate reading, you can try the AI Speak, which will narrate the article for you. You can also pick between male and female voices, play, pause, or speed up the narration.
AI Studio will use your selfie and place your face into different templates available on the app. It costs 10 stars to generate four images from the same template and you’re given 5,000 points when you sign in.
The new ColorOS 15 also has an AI Assistant for Notes feature that lets users clean up and polish documents, continue writing, and improve the format. There’s also an option to use AI to translate and summarize documents.
A lot of the other AI features are found in the Gallery. In fact, OPPO has now created a dedicated AI Editor section that lets users access features such as AI Eraser, Enhance clarity, Unblulr, and Remove reflections.
All the AI photo features did well, albeit you need an internet connection for them to work.
The Google Gemini app is built-in and can be quickly accessed from the lock screen via a button adjacent to the camera app.
OPPO’s remote app comes pre-loaded so you can control different tech from non-smart TVs to cameras using IoT technology or the IR blaster on top of the device.
OPPO’s take on Apple’s Dynamic Island, called Aqua Dynamics, works well so you can quickly see live alerts and control select apps. The company even beat some of its competition by adding support for delivery services such as Grab, Zomato, and Swiggy. Even though some might think that it’s some sort of gimmick, I find it pretty useful.
One feature I really like is the O+ Connect for quickly sharing files with iOS devices over WiFi. The setup is also a piece of cake. Basically, it works like the popular app ShareIt, but without the complexities and tons of ads.
A QR code will pop up, which an iPhone device can scan to open the app’s page on the App Store. The file size is only 35MB, so the process should be quick. It’s a faster and more convenient way of sharing files than cloud services. It sends the original file, too, so there’s no quality compared to sending images using Messenger.
Hardcore users will appreciate the new Performance Booster tab, which shows real-time CPU usage, device temperature, RAM usage, storage, and more. You can also perform different optimizations to ensure the device runs at its best.
As with most phones today, virtual RAM expansion is here. It lets you expand the memory by 4GB, 8GB, and 12GB by borrowing from the storage. Unlike other brands, OPPO gives users the choice to turn on or off this feature.
The camera app has been slightly tinkered with to accommodate features like smart scenes, which you can access by tapping the expand icon on the Photo/Video button.
Cameras
The OPPO Find X8 has a 50-megapixel 1/1.56-inch LYT-700 sensor with optical image stabilization, f/1.8 aperture, and 24mm lens. It is joined by a 50-megapixel IMX882 sensor with a 3x periscope zoom lens and OIS, and a 50-megapixel ISOCELL JN5 with an ultra-wide lens.
In addition to the filters, Hasselblad also lent a hand on the camera’s new Soft Lighting Portrait effects. The Find X8 also has a Pro camera mode, where the user can shoot in RAW, adjust the ISO, white balance, and more. For shooting fast moving subjects, there’s Action mode.
The device also has a Livephoto feature that captures 3 seconds of video when you take a photo. It works exactly like the one on iPhones. Surprisingly, it’s cross-compatible so you can share and receive files with iOS devices.
In terms of video capabilities, the Find X8 can shoot 4K 60fps videos with Dolby Vision on all cameras. There’s also support for 1080p 240fps and 720p 480fps slow-motion videos. To improve video stability, an Ultra Steady mode is available to reduce unnecessary shakes.
Daylight shots from the main camera are simply stunning. Purists may complain that the saturation is a little high and the contrast is a little off, but most people would appreciate how expressive and vibrant they are.
For flexibility, users can tap the 1x button to switch between three simulated lenses: 24mm, 28mm, and 35mm. The colors pop, the contrast is deep, and the details are incredibly sharp. As you can see below, there’s even authentic-looking creamy bokeh on some of the shots.
Tap the 2x button and you’re still within the main camera. The 48mm focal length, while technically just a crop, still looks very sharp and is good for taking portraits — with or without the portrait mode enabled.
Shots at night and indoors look equally impressive with nice exposure and appealing colors. The post-processing did a great job of softening the noise which may look too much, but more often than not unnoticeable unless you’re looking for it.
Click the 3x button and you’re now using the periscope telephoto camera that can switch between 73mm and 85mm. The 6x/146mm uses the same sensor, as well as the 120x zoom.
Image quality is as impressive as the main camera with the same lively colors, contrast, and bokeh. However, the dynamic range is a little bit off at times, and I noticed a halo effect on the subject in some of the shots.
OPPO has built-in 15 different filters in the camera app that you can set just one time so all your succeeding shots will have the same vibe and feel.
Finally, we get into the 32-megapixel front-facing camera. As you can see, selfies have ample detail and accurate skin tones. Indoor and low-light performance also passed the mark. One small issue I noticed is that it still applies a bit of a ‘beauty’ effect even when the feature is turned off, which makes the faces look a little softer.
Without a doubt, the OPPO Find X8 has one of the best cameras on a mobile phone today. It takes great photos and videos, has flexible lenses, and gives plenty of options to be more creative.
Battery and Charging
The OPPO Find X8 has a 5,630mAh battery, 12% bigger than its predecessor. OPPO used silicon-carbon technology to increase the density while keeping the module small. Going with this tech was a good move as it made the device smaller and churned out impressive longevity.
It lasted four 15 hours and 51 minutes in our PCMark synthetic battery loop test. That’s higher than the average score we get of 14 hours on other devices. This test looped synthetic workload until the battery dropped to 20%, and was run with the brightness and volume at 50% and the WiFi and Bluetooth off.
This means it could easily last you for an entire day or two of light to moderate use — possibly three if you’re a more conservative user.
But if you’re a heavy user, always on the go, and hate idle time, there’s still no need to worry. The Find X8 comes with a whopping 50W wireless charging so you can top it off fast and easily.

Verdict
The OPPO Find X8 is a solid smartphone and it’s easily one of the best Android flagships you can get this 2024. It’s more than just a smaller and more affordable alternative to the Pro model — it’s a great daily driver on its own.
In a world of huge flagship phones, we’re rarely given an alternative that has the same amount of power as the big guys. A smaller and lighter smartphone usually means compromises, but that’s not the case here.
The OPPO Find X8 seems to have it all: killer performance, top-notch display and audio, solid battery life with speedy charging, and of course, flexible cameras with impressive image quality.
While it’s not without its flaws, there’s no denying that the OPPO Find X8 is one of the most well-equipped, competitively priced flagship phones in the market today.
