Globe Telecom, one of the leading wireless telco companies in the Philippines, has launched the first private 5G network targeting businesses.
The historic launch, made at a Globe facility in Makati City, is the first of its kind in the realm of private 5G networks. It aims to deliver a fast, reliable, low-latency, and exclusive connectivity solution for businesses.
Unlike regular 5G connectivity, where you can publicly connect using your mobile phone, a private 5G network provides an enterprise-grade, dedicated, and on-premises wireless network solution for organizations, similar to a leased line for wired connection.
Private 5G networks can also allow better control, higher levels of security, and improved reliability in various industries.
This service will be available to Globe’s business-to-business (B2B) clients, particularly in the ports, mining, and manufacturing sectors.
“This milestone demonstrates our drive to provide cutting-edge connectivity solutions that cater to the varying needs of our clients,” stated Gerhard Tan, Senior Director and Head of Technology Strategy and Innovations at Globe.
Globe’s pilot, in collaboration with Nokia Shanghai Bell, also featured cutting-edge video surveillance and analytics solutions, including facial recognition, gender detection, and vehicle plate tracking.
The technology also aims to improve operational safety, workforce management, and business asset tracking.
