Sony Xperia 1 VII: Snapdragon 8 Elite CPU, Exmor T sensor, Bravia OLED display

Sony-Xperia-1-VII

Sony’s latest flagship phone is out. The Sony Xperia 1 VII has a lot of the upgrades you’d expect from a 2025 high-end phone, but with a similar design to its predecessor.

The Sony Xperia 1 VII is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite processor with vapor chamber cooling, 12GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage that’s surprisingly expandable via the microSD card slot — a feature not all high-end phones have.

We also have a fancy 6.5-inch Bravia OLED display with a 2340 x 1080 pixel resolution, 10-bit color, and a high 120Hz refresh rate. It then has illuminance sensors in front and back for precise brightness adjustment. It also adapts to ambient lighting for automatic display color adjustment.

Sony went with the usual 5,000mAh battery with a relatively slow 30W charging. Despite this, Sony claims it can last for up to 2 days. Sony’s Xperia Adaptive Charging and Battery Care is also here, which ensures 4 years of healthy battery. It will receive 4 years of OS upgrades on top of Android 15 and 6 years of security patches.

We finally head to the cameras. The Xperia 1 VII boasts a 48-megapixel main shooter that uses a 1/1.35-inch Exmor T sensor with optical image stabilization. The 12-megapixel 1/3.5-inch Exmor RS sensor has an 85mm-170mm telephoto lens with an f/2.3-3.5mm aperture with macro capabilities of 4cm minimum focusing distance.

What’s really new here is the ultra-wide shooter, which now uses a 2.1x bigger 48-megapixel 1/1.56-inch Exmor RS sensor.
