Google has confirmed that its digital payments solution, Google Pay, will be coming very soon to the Philippines.
As per the report, Google Pay APAC Strategic Partnership head TG Ramakrishnan said during the Singapore Fintech Festival (SFF) that their service will be available in all 11 ASEAN countries “over the next 18 to 24 months.”
The service is already available in Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia.
But Google Pay is expected to arrive in the Philippines much sooner. In fact, when asked about Google Pay’s local launch, Visa Philippines Country Manager Jeffrey Navarro said that “I think safe to say, this year.”
Visa is one of Google Pay’s partners for its global rollout.
Meanwhile, the Bank of Philippine Islands (BPI) had earlier announced that it is preparing for the local launch of both Google Pay and Apple Pay in the Philippines.
The oldest Philippine bank said that its products will be ready for tokenization by next year.
