A new initiative from VinFast aims to protect the investment of its customers in the Philippines. The electric car manufacturer has launched a buyback program that ensures a specific resale value for its vehicles, a direct effort to calm fears about electric car value depreciation.
This program, named the Residual Value Guarantee (RVG), sets a fixed buyback price for the first three years of ownership. The offer is available for all VinFast models sold to Filipinos in the Philippines.
The move is a clear response to common uncertainties potential buyers have about electric vehicles. These often include questions about battery lifespan, maintenance expenses, and how much a used electric car is actually worth. By promising a fixed resale value, VinFast hopes to convince more people to make the switch to electric transport.
| Term | Residual Value |
| 6 months | up to 90% of the EV’s price |
| 1 year | up to 86% of the EV’s price |
| 2 years | up to 78% of the EV’s price |
| 3 years | up to 70% of the EV’s price |
This guarantee adds to other benefits the automaker provides. Customers also receive a warranty that covers ten years, three years of complimentary charging at partnered stations, and various payment plans.
VinFast has also been expanding its operations in the Philippines. It now runs a network of 20 showrooms and has more than 30 authorized service centers across the nation.
CEO Antonio Zara, who leads VinFast’s operations in Southeast Asia, explained the logic behind the buyback plan. He stated that the company can reuse the vehicles it repurchases. These cars can be shifted into commercial services like taxi or rental fleets, making the financial model of the program sustainable.
Although the buyback guarantee lasts for three years in PH, Zara expressed confidence that many drivers will choose to keep their electric cars for longer after experiencing lower operating costs. The company considers the Philippines a key market in the region for its global expansion plans.
