Over 3 years from Diablo IV’s 2023 launch, Blizzard has confirmed Diablo V for a first-half of 2029 release window during its BlizzCon 2026 Opening Ceremony in Anaheim. The Diablo V story picks up around a century after Diablo IV’s ending, after the Lord of Terror’s rule has hardened into a permanent state. Blizzard’s 48-second teaser depicts the aftermath: thousands of angels executed on makeshift crosses, and the surviving human population kneeling before Diablo as their new deity. There is no chosen hero, no quest log, no town to call home. Instead, players take the role of an heir to the fallen kingdom of Westmarch and lead a ragtag caravan of survivors through a desolate landscape. The Diablo V story picks up around a century after Diablo IV’s ending, after the Lord of Terror’s rule has hardened into a permanent state. Three classes ship with Diablo V at launch: the Demon Hunter returning from earlier entries, the Monk in melee form, and a brand-new Plague Knight whose kit leans on contagion and debuffs. Blizzard also confirmed the return of classic green set items — the gear category that defined Diablo II — alongside solo and online multiplayer modes.

The 2029 window massively tightens the gap between Diablo games. Blizzard shipped Diablo IV in June 2023, roughly six years ahead of the new release; the franchise’s earlier gaps were longer. Diablo II and Diablo III were 12 years apart, with Diablo IV debuting in 2023 after another 11-year wait.
