Apple, DepEd deal to supply over 170,000 MacBook Neo laptops to teachers, school staff

Apple-DepEd-170000-Macbook-Neo-Philippines

Apple and the Philippines’ Department of Education (DepEd) have reached a landmark deal to supply over 170,000 MacBook Neo laptops to teachers and school staff across the country.

During a recent quarterly financial call, Apple CEO John Ternus confirmed that the company had secured a deal with the Philippine government, highlighting the country’s education sector as a key driver of Apple’s international classroom adoption.

The deal is reportedly Apple’s largest institutional education deal for Mac and the biggest institutional rollout yet for its budget-oriented laptop.

“I’m feeling great about the opportunities ahead for Apple, from our product roadmap and broad range of services to promising areas like health, emerging markets, enterprise, and education. As one example, we recently secured our biggest education deal ever for Mac, with the Department of Education in the Philippines. They’re going to deploy 170,000 MacBook Neos to teachers and staff. Opportunities like this bring more users into our ecosystem and help fuel growth across our business,” Ternus said.

DepEd said a total of 172,654 MacBook Neo laptops will be distributed to public schools nationwide. Each unit was purchased for just ₱43,000, around ₱6,900 less than its official retail price in the Philippines.

The laptops will also come with a five-year warranty.

For a quick recap, the MacBook Neo is Apple’s cheapest laptop to date. It features a compact design with a 13-inch Liquid Retina display, an Apple A18 Pro chip, up to 16 hours of battery life, USB-C charging, and Apple Intelligence. It is also available in a range of colors.

The MacBook Neo should be more than capable of handling everyday work and school-related tasks, including word processing, presentations, web browsing, and other productivity workloads.

Apple puts Vision Pro update on hold to speed up development of AI smart glasses

Apple has reportedly decided to delay plans for a major update to its high-end Vision Pro headset. Instead, the company is allegedly moving its focus to creating a new line of AI-powered smart glasses that would compete directly with products from Meta. This new rumor comes from a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman . Although Apple had been developing a more affordable and lighter version of the Vision Pro, it is now reassigning staff from that project to work on the new smart glasses initiative. According to the report, Apple is developing at least two different types of smart glasses. The first model, known internally as the N50, is designed to work with an iPhone and will not have its own built-in display. Apple’s current plan is to announce these glasses as early as next year, with a full release to the public scheduled for 2027. The second model is a more advanced version that will include its own display. This product would put Apple in direct competition with the recently a...

Meta’s new Muse Spark can plan trips, read snack labels, and build mini games

Meta just released a new AI model called Muse Spark. The company says this one is different as it’s built to actually help people with everyday stuff, not just give fancy answers. Muse Spark comes from Meta Superintelligence Labs. The team spent nine months rebuilding their technology from scratch. This is the first model in a new series, and it’s designed to be small and fast. But despite that, Meta says that it can still handle tough questions in science, math, and health. The Meta AI app and website are getting an upgrade right now. You can choose between two speeds. One gives you quick answers. The other takes more time to think through harder problems. Here’s a real example. Say you’re planning a trip to with your family. The new AI can run multiple tasks at the same time. One part works on the schedule. Another compares different cities. A third looks for fun kids’ activities. You get a complete answer much faster than before. Most AIs only read text, but Muse Spark can ...
