Omdia’s Worldwide Smartphone Shipments report for Q3 2026 confirms what we already know: shipments continue to decline due to the memory shortage.

Samsung stayed on top, shipping 57.8 million units in Q3 2026. Despite being number one, that’s still a 5% YoY drop. The budget-friendly Galaxy A series helped them stay competitive, as well as the August launch of the Galaxy Z8 series and its trade-in and upgrade programs.

Apple is in the second spot, shipping 56.5 million in the said quarter. Apple is lucky to have a flat YoY, while others suffered a decline. As per Omdia, iPhones’ strong demand in China and North America was able to offset its weakness in emerging markets.

Xiaomi dominated the Chinese brands by sitting in the top third spot worldwide. They shipped 30.7 million units, suffering a 29% YoY decline. Omdia highlighted how Xiaomi has been increasing its prices for margin protection.

As per Omdia, the global smartphone market is expected to decline further in 2027, driven by continued HBM and conventional memory shortages that will keep costs high.

Smartphone vendors will likely respond by cutting sales and marketing costs, improving operational efficiency, and expanding software, services, and post-sale revenue. Strong finances, lean inventories, and efficient operations will become increasingly important competitive advantages.

Apple puts Vision Pro update on hold to speed up development of AI smart glasses

Apple has reportedly decided to delay plans for a major update to its high-end Vision Pro headset. Instead, the company is allegedly moving its focus to creating a new line of AI-powered smart glasses that would compete directly with products from Meta. This new rumor comes from a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman . Although Apple had been developing a more affordable and lighter version of the Vision Pro, it is now reassigning staff from that project to work on the new smart glasses initiative. According to the report, Apple is developing at least two different types of smart glasses. The first model, known internally as the N50, is designed to work with an iPhone and will not have its own built-in display. Apple’s current plan is to announce these glasses as early as next year, with a full release to the public scheduled for 2027. The second model is a more advanced version that will include its own display. This product would put Apple in direct competition with the recently a...

Muse Spark comes from Meta Superintelligence Labs. The team spent nine months rebuilding their technology from scratch. This is the first model in a new series, and it’s designed to be small and fast. But despite that, Meta says that it can still handle tough questions in science, math, and health. The Meta AI app and website are getting an upgrade right now. You can choose between two speeds. One gives you quick answers. The other takes more time to think through harder problems. Here’s a real example. Say you’re planning a trip to with your family. The new AI can run multiple tasks at the same time. One part works on the schedule. Another compares different cities. A third looks for fun kids’ activities. You get a complete answer much faster than before. Most AIs only read text, but Muse Spark can ...
