The Philippines has taken a step toward rocket science as it successfully launched TALA—the country’s first-ever high-powered hybrid rocket—on the Crow Valley Gunnery Range, Capas, Tarlac at 11:57 AM, Saturday.

A hybrid by design, TALA runs on both liquid oxidizer and solid fuel, which renders its shipping, handling, and storage a lot less hazardous. Further, the building of the rocket is significantly cheaper as well.

The project is viewed as a catalyst for space science and technology applications research for the subsequent creation and innovation of our space assets for space-related exploration, research, and commerce.

The liftoff led to the deployment of the Can Satellite payload, which is soon followed by a rapid descent and release of the main parachute to cushion the fall.

With TALA having successfully landed and retrieved, the rocketry team of TALA is now mobilized to gather and analyze the launch data to pinpoint the rocket’s flight information.

Established in 2018, TALA was built from the ground up under the Young Innovators Program of the Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) by the alumnus of St. Cecilia’s College – Cebu.

Making the project a possibility is through the collaboration of the government and the military, namely the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) alongside the Philippine Air Force of the Colonel Ernesto Ravina Air Base, Air Force Systems Engineering Office, the 710th Special Operations Wing, Air Force Research and Development Center, the 790th Air Base Groups, 950th Cyberspace and Electronic Warfare Wing, Air Force Systems Engineering Office, and Air Force Public Affairs Office.

Xiaomi 14 Ultra: SD 8 Gen 3, 120Hz AMOLED, 1-inch sensor, Titanium Edition

Xiaomi has introduced in China its best smartphone to date, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, just a few days before its global debut at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona this February 25. The Xiaomi 14 Ultra looks similar to its predecessor in terms of the layout. But this time, it’s more refined, and Xiaomi is joining in on the Titanium hype as it will come with a Titanium Special Edition model, which uses a grade 5 titanium like the new iPhone 15 Pro series. Oddly, it weighs 229.6g, which is heavier than the black and white (22.4.4g) and Dragon Crystal (229.5g) colors. The Titanium will also exclusively get two-way satellite communication. Another similar but refined feature is the cameras. It still has four 50-megapixel shooters, however, the main one gets an upgraded 1-inch Sony LYT-900 sensor. It also has a wider f/1.63 aperture, which can be dropped to f/4.0. The other three cameras use the same 1/2.5-inch Sony IMX858 sensor. That’s for the ultra-wide lens with a 12mm eq
