ST Telemedia Global Data Centres has announced the development of a $1 billion data center in Quezon City through its local unit STT GDC Philippines, a joint venture by the Singapore-based company, Globe Inc., and Ayala Corporation.
The upcoming data center, named STT Fairview, will be a large campus with four buildings that encompasses more than 83,000 square meters overall. STT GDC claims it to be the largest data center in the Philippines so far. The campus will have a maximum development potential IT load capacity of 124 megawatts, though the initial capacity is 28 MW when the campus starts operating in 2025.
STT Fairview has a strategic location in Quezon City where it has convenient access to essential infrastructure and industry hubs nearby. It will also have a network connection to STT Makati, which means the former’s customers will have immediate access to local and international digital infrastructure components, such as internet exchanges and submarine cable systems.
Recognizing the Philippine progress in digital transformation, Globe CEO Ernest Cu said the new STT Fairview will provide crucial support in the industry and the underserved market in the country. Meanwhile, STT GDC Philippines CEO Carlo Malana said the company is confident in capturing new demand while staying committed to their sustainability goals.
STT Fairview will utilize liquid cooling, AI and machine learning, and other solutions for reduced carbon emissions to adhere to global industry standards. Aside from the upcoming data center, STT GDC Philippines is presently running five data centers where over 95 percent of its energy come from renewable sources.
According to Malana, the digital industry in the Philippines is expected to grow at a compound annual rate of 20 percent until 2030. An e-Conomy SEA report in 2022 also projected the country’s digital economy is to outpace GDP growth, with e-commerce driving gross merchandise value to reach $35 billion by 2025.
