Blackmagic’s renowned mobile app called Blackmagic Camera has finally landed on the Google Play Store — with one big caveat.
The Blackmagic Camera app first arrived on iOS devices last September and works with devices powered by A12 Bionic Chip and later, which means it is compatible with the newer iPhones up to the iPhone Xs series and XR from five years ago.

Sadly, that expansive compatibility is missing for the now-available Android version as it only works with the Samsung Galaxy S23, S24, and Google Pixel 7 and 8. Developing the app might have required a lot of specificity per device, so they may have been forced to focus on only a few smartphones.
That said, the lucky devices will benefit from the upgraded video-recording capabilities of the Blackmagic Camera app. The company highlighted how users can access a user-friendly interface akin to its professional cameras.

Users can shoot their projects with pro tools like manual frame rate adjustment, shutter angle, ISO, white balance, and more. Users can also record directly to the Blackmagic Cloud with up to 8K files.
Shooting to the cloud will allow users to collaborate and easily edit videos using DaVinci Resolve.

The main interface is feature-packed yet easy to comprehend so users can easily adjust settings without digging in the menu.
There’s also a heads-up display (HUD) that lets you choose between said settings, and pick from different lenses, see audio levels, histogram, tint, and more.

Users can also shoot on the standard 16:9 or other aspect ratio, capture in H.264 and H.265 with auto proxy generation; use focus assist, frame guide, and zebra; have VU or PPM audio meters; preview clips with scrubber, timecode, duration, and file name shown.
The Blackmagic Camera for Android is now on Google Play Store available on the said select Samsung and Google Pixel phones for free.
