The HONOR Pad X8b entered the Philippine market with a simple pitch: a tablet that survives family life without flinching.

No flagship pretensions, no productivity theater. Just a slab of metal and glass designed to handle kids, commutes, and weekend marathons. We spent several weeks with it to find out if it delivers.

HONOR Pad X8b Specs

  • Android 16 with MagicOS 10
  • 11-inch TFT LCD display, 1920 × 1200 resolution, 90Hz refresh rate, 500 nits peak brightness
  • 6nm octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 processor
  • Adreno 610 GPU
  • 4GB physical RAM (+ 4GB Dynamic RAM expansion)
  • 128GB internal storage (expandable up to 2TB via microSD)

Design and Build Quality

HONOR marketed the Pad X8b as “Tablet Made Tough,” and after three weeks of testing, we’re inclined to agree. The metal chassis uses what HONOR calls “embedding material technology,” which translates to a claimed 90% improvement in structural strength over typical budget tablets.

The company backed these claims with SGS Drop Resistance and Crush Resistance certifications: 60% higher drop protection, 30% better crush resistance, and 30% more water resistance than competitors.

We put this to the test. During a video shoot, we accidentally knocked the unit off a desk onto hardwood flooring multiple times. The display survived without shattering.

A few scratches appeared on the frame, but nothing that affected functionality. The glass remains intact and scratch-free enough for daily use. That’s a solid outcome for a device at this price range.

The design is more functional rather than exciting. At 499g and 7.25mm thick, the Pad X8b feels substantial without being heavy, balanced enough for extended couch sessions.

The metal body has no creaky flex, which separates it immediately from plastic competitors. Buttons are logically placed and easy to reach without looking.

The front-facing camera sits centered along the landscape bezel, a thoughtful touch for video calls.

The back panel features a subtle HONOR logo and the camera module. Space Grey is the only color option, which is fine. It looks professional and resists fingerprints well.

For families with young children, the durability credentials matter. The Pad X8b can handle being passed around, left on couches, and occasionally dropped without catastrophic results. Just don’t treat it as an excuse to not use a protective case entirely.

Display and Audio

The 11-inch IPS display is the Pad X8b’s strongest selling point for media consumption. At 1920 × 1200, the resolution is crisp enough for reading, watching, and multitasking without feeling cramped.

HONOR-Pad-X8b-Review-5864

The 16:10 aspect ratio is a win for anyone who watches shows in landscape, as you get more vertical real estate than standard 16:9 displays.

Peak brightness of 500 nits is a noticeable improvement over its predecessor. Indoor use is comfortable, though direct sunlight will challenge the panel like any non-OLED display. Color output leans neutral rather than oversaturated, which works well for extended sessions but won’t impress those who prefer punchy visuals.

The 90Hz refresh rate adds a smoothness that’s immediately noticeable when scrolling through feeds or switching between apps. It’s not as buttery as 120Hz on higher-end tablets, but it’s a meaningful upgrade from the 60Hz panels common in this price range.

Eye comfort features are comprehensive. Dynamic Dimming adjusts harsh lighting during late-night sessions. The dedicated Eye Comfort mode and eBook mode significantly reduce blue light output.

The eBook feature is particularly clever as it shifts the interface into stark black and white, creating a Kindle-like canvas for reading comics, manga, and digital novels. Parents can also leverage these features through HONOR Kids to protect younger eyes.

HONOR-Pad-X8b-Review-5869

The quad-speaker setup consists of two drivers on each side, enhanced by HONOR Sound and Hi-Res Audio.

Sound quality is solid for the price, as they get loud enough to fill a small bedroom and maintain clarity at higher volumes. Bass is present but not deep, which is expected from tablet speakers. They’re perfectly adequate for YouTube, Netflix, and casual gaming without headphones.

Hardware and Performance

The Snapdragon 680 is a familiar 6nm chipset that prioritizes efficiency over raw power. It handles everyday tasks like browsing, streaming, document editing and social media without complaint. With 4GB of physical RAM plus HONOR’s 4GB Dynamic RAM expansion, multitasking works adequately as long as you don’t push it too hard.

HONOR-Pad-X8b-Kid-Space

Opening too many apps or switching rapidly between intensive programs causes noticeable UI lag. We recommend sticking to two apps side-by-side at most. The system technically supports four floating windows simultaneously, but we strongly advise against it as the performance drops off a cliff.

HONOR-Pad-X8b-Review-5874

Gaming tells a clear story. Casual and esports titles like Mobile Legends, Call of Duty Mobile, and Asphalt 9 ran without issues. We didn’t bother with demanding mobile RPGs because the Snapdragon 680 isn’t really built for Genshin Impact-level workloads, and the 4GB RAM ceiling limits how much graphical eye candy the tablet can push. Of course, it’s possible to try it and play but expect sluggish performance.

The sweet spot is retro emulation. The Pad X8b handles GameCube titles beautifully through Dolphin or similar emulators.

HONOR-Pad-X8b-Review-5866

If retro gaming is your thing, this tablet is a surprisingly capable and affordable option. Load up games through that microSD slot which supports up to 2TB of expandable storage and you’ve got a legitimate retro gaming station.

Thermal performance is excellent, as the tablet never gets warm during casual use or gaming.

Software and User Interface

MagicOS 10 on Android 16 is clean and intuitive. The interface feels polished rather than cluttered, with sensible defaults that work out of the box. Split-screen multitasking lets you snap two programs side by side, which is ideal for keeping a browser open while taking notes. Floating windowed apps are also supported.

HONOR-Pad-X8b-5864

The update policy includes two years of Android OS upgrades and three years of security patches which is a standard for this segment, though longer commitments from Samsung and Apple set a higher bar.

Parental controls through HONOR Kids are comprehensive. Parents can enforce specific bedtimes, cap daily screen time to exact hours, and whitelist approved apps while locking down the open web.

The system automatically activates blue light filters during designated hours and triggers posture and distance alerts if a child’s face gets too close to the screen. This turns the Pad X8b into a genuinely kid-friendly device rather than just a regular tablet that happens to be durable.

Biometric security is basic. There’s no fingerprint sensor here, just PIN and pattern unlock. The face unlock for the front camera works adequately in good lighting.

Bloatware is minimal. A few HONOR apps and some Philippine-relevant preinstalled apps are present, most of which can be disabled or uninstalled without much hassle.

Cameras

The camera system is strictly functional. Both front and rear use 5-megapixel sensors, which is typical for budget tablets.

HONOR-Pad-X8b-Camera-Review

The rear camera handles document scanning, quick reference shots, and occasional captures well enough in good lighting.

Autofocus helps, but detail suffers in anything less than ideal conditions. This is not a camera you’d rely on for meaningful photography.

The front camera plays a bigger role given the tablet’s video call focus. It sits centered along the landscape bezel, which makes total sense for meetings.

Video calls look decent at 720p/30fps, and it’s clear enough for virtual classes or work calls without demanding perfection. Detail isn’t impressive, but the positioning and adequate quality make it practical.

Neither camera will replace a smartphone for serious photography and that’s fine. HONOR made the right call, prioritizing durability and media consumption over camera specs.

Battery and Charging

Battery life is where the Pad X8b quietly excels. That 10,100mAh cell is the real headline here, and real-world endurance backs up the large capacity.

HONOR-Pad-X8b-Review-5863

In real world use, we squeezed 2 to 3 days of solid use from a single charge, depending on intensity. Lighter usage like reading, web browsing, and occasional video easily stretches toward three days.

HONOR’s claimed figures of 22 hours of video playback and 123 hours of music streaming are optimistic but not wildly off for our test conditions.

HONOR-Pad-X8b-Charging

The tradeoff is charging speed. Without fast charging support, refilling that 10,100mAh battery takes a couple of hours plugged into the included adapter. This is a device designed to charge overnight rather than top up during lunch breaks.

The included 10W charging adapter and USB-A to USB-C cable are standard. No fast charging means you won’t get quick boosts before heading out. Another reason this tablet fits best as a home or school device rather than a travel companion.

Verdict

The HONOR Pad X8b isn’t trying to replace your laptop or compete with iPads. It’s a purpose-built budget tablet that excels at the things most families actually use tablets for.

HONOR-Pad-X8b-Unboxing

The HONOR Pad X8b is the family tablet that doesn’t need babying. It survives drops, lasts for days, and handles streaming like a pro. The Snapdragon 680 won’t win any speed records, but it’s efficient enough for the target usage like casual gaming, video streaming, reading, and video calls.

If you have kids who will inevitably abuse the device, the durable metal build and HONOR Kids controls make this a genuinely stress-free choice.

HONOR-Pad-X8b-Review-5875

It’s not for power users or anyone expecting flagship performance, but for families looking for a reliable media and learning tablet that can handle real life, this is one of the better options in the Philippine market right now.

Pricing and Availability

The HONOR Pad X8b has an SRP of Php10,999 for the sole variant of 4GB/128GB. It’s available through HONOR Philippines official stores, major online retailers like Shopee and Lazada, TikTok Shop, and select retail partners nationwide.

Pros

  • Reinforced metal body
  • Decent battery life
  • Good reading and watching experience

Cons

  • No fast charging
  • 4GB RAM struggles with heavy multitasking

We also have the fingerprint scanner underneath the display. There’s a punch-hole on top of the curved screen for the standar...
