Sony Reon Pocket Pro Plus wearable air conditioner launched

Sony has updated its unusual wearable air conditioner, and the new model promises to run even cooler than before. The device is called the Reon Pocket Pro Plus , and it will go on sale in the UK and Europe through Sony’s own website and online stores like Amazon. The Reon is not simply a fan that hangs around your neck. It uses something called the Peltier effect to cool you down. The gadget sits at the base of your neck, and an electrically cooled metal plate delivers lower temperatures right where your circulatory system can benefit most. Sony has updated its unusual wearable air conditioner, and the new model promises to run even cooler than before.

The device is called the Reon Pocket Pro Plus, and it will go on sale in the UK and Europe through Sony’s own website and online stores like Amazon.

The Reon is not simply a fan that hangs around your neck. It uses something called the Peltier effect to cool you down. The gadget sits at the base of your neck, and an electrically cooled metal plate delivers lower temperatures right where your circulatory system can benefit most. Think of it like a tiny ice pack with a USB-C port.

Sony first started working on the Reon back in 2017. After a crowdfunding campaign in 2019, the device eventually launched in Asia and later in Western markets. Now, almost ten years later, the company has refined the design again.

The new Sony Reon Pocket Pro Plus model offers two degrees Celsius, or 3.6 degrees Fahrenheit, more cooling power than its predecessor. That is a 20 percent increase. It also comes with an improved cooling algorithm that tracks temperature changes on the device and in the surrounding area more accurately. Despite being stronger, the battery still lasts up to 10 hours on the second-highest cooling setting.

Sony says the redesigned fins, which hold the device against your neck and shoulders, make the Reon 40 percent more stable. The company shared heat-map images to show a stronger and more lasting cooling effect.

The hardware looks similar to the Reon Pocket Pro. It traces the back of your neck and fits under a shirt or any top. The fin around the vent has been adjusted to suit different neck shapes. A quiet fan helps move air across the cooling area, and an automatic shutdown feature stops the device from overheating.

The Sony Reon Pocket Pro Plus also comes with a second generation Pocket Tag accessory. It is smaller than the old version and monitors the surrounding temperature and humidity. That data helps the Reon fine tune its cooling. There is also a smartphone app for manual controls, but you can still use the device without your phone.

The price is set at EUR199 (~Php14,300) for the Sont Reon Pocket Pro Plus. Sony did not confirm a global launch.
